About Tatty Bumpkin, Paula Brown and her helpers...
Tatty Bumpkin lives on Wobble Farm where she gads about on her adventures, meets lots of animals and breathes lots of fresh air.
Her helper, Paula Brown has been living in Bristol for 10 years and running Tatty Bumpkin sessions in a range of settings for 3 years. She has two very active boys (Gabe, 5 and Jude, 3) and a husband, Nige who are her guinea pigs and assistants. She was so happy to meet Tatty three years ago and to find a session that embraced young children's energy rather than tried to constantly contain it!
Paula has always strongly felt that young children shouldn't be expected to focus on one particular skill for a long period at a time and loves the natural mix of music, dance, movement, story, puppets, symbolic and imaginary play, exercise, healthy eating etc. that is Tatty Bumpkin. The fact that the stories are about a rather scruffy but adventurous doll suits her down to the ground! Paula has worked as an educational tour guide with teenagers, as a storyteller, playworker, childminder, she and Nigel and the boys run a Woodcraft Folk youth group as well as parachute games sessions, she writes on parenting issues, helps research the Bristol Titch Hiker's Guide and has an interest in environmental play issues, storytelling, clowning, children's literature, laughter yoga and weaving science and maths into stories.
Paula is an Advanced teacher, police checked, fully insured and trained (training is accredited by CACHE
- the Children's Council for Awards in Childcare and Education which
train preschool, school and day nursery staff). Tatty Bumpkin is a
member of the Preschool Learning Alliance. Paula
The classes are going to be run at the Chiron Centre in Westbury on Trym. Each course is made up of 3 classes.
